2027 Vegetable/Flower Production Trainee
Description
This seasonal position is part of the annual production team, with a primary focus on vegetable, cut flower, and herb production across approximately 3 acres of diversified crops. These products are distributed through the farm stand, local restaurants, florists/designers, and regional food and flower hubs.
The employee will engage in all aspects of vegetable and flower production, including greenhouse work (seeding, thinning, potting up) and fieldwork (bed preparation, transplanting, direct seeding, hoeing, weeding, trellising, pruning, irrigation, and mulching), as well as harvest and post-harvest handling (washing, packing, and organizing product for sale and distribution).
Additional responsibilities include staffing the farm stand and assisting with deliveries. While the primary focus is on annual production, there may be occasional opportunities to support other areas of the farm, including fruit and value-added production, offering a broader understanding of the farm’s systems.
This role provides hands-on experience in Biodynamic farming practices and the opportunity to build practical skills in growing, harvesting, and handling high-quality produce and flowers. While working in the farm stand, the employee will engage directly with customers and represent the farm’s offerings with knowledge and care.
Compensation & Benefits
$18/hr
On-farm housing
Access to farm produce (fruit, vegetables, and flowers)
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Full‑time; five days per week, eight hours per day
Occasional weekend shifts at the farm stand
Paid holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and the Friday after Thanksgiving
Seasonal position: March through November

Responsibilities
Soil and bed preparation
Propagation of vegetables and flowers; greenhouse maintenance
Garden maintenance for year-round productivity and aesthetic appeal
Harvest, wash and pack produce for retail and wholesale orders
Harvest and organize cut-flowers for wholesale floral sales
Accurately handle cash, credit card, and other transactions through an electronic POS system while assisting in the farm stand
Follow food safety practices and procedures.

Familiarity with a broad spectrum of crops and horticultural techniques
Ability to maintain and improve records of farming tasks and production
Spanish language skills are helpful but not required
A farmer’s sense of humor and humility
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Good communication and interpersonal skills: Active listener with empathetic, respectful communication
Bend, stand, or kneel for extended periods of time
Ability to perform farm tasks in inclement weather, including rain or heat up to 95˚F
Excellent work ethic with innate attention to detail, even while engaged in repetitive tasks
Ability to follow written and oral instructions and willingness to seek guidance as needed
Reliable, prompt, and consistent
Required Education and Experience
A minimum of one year gardening or farming experience in an organic or Biodynamic setting.
